The Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition (SVTC) released a report on April 2 cautioning the nanotechnology industry against a bullish approach to capitalizing on the potential of nanotechnology that might put the public’s health at risk. The report calls for the Environmental Protection Agency to cover gaping holes in regulatory policies that don’t include provisions for nanotechnology.

The Hoffman Agency worked with SVTC to facilitate a series of widely syndicated articles, including coverage in IDG and VentureBeat. Comments on the VentureBeat article sparked ongoing conversation across the Internet, as the article was reposted all over the blogosphere and “Digged” hundreds of times, attaining the coveted title of “made popular” on Digg.com.

Hoffman also landed SVTC a live radio interview with KQED, and placed an Earth Day op-ed in the San Jose Mercury News on the health risks associated with nanotechnology.

As an environmentalist group, SVTC struggles to combat the industry’s reputation for unmet doomsday predictions. However, feedback from industry influencers surrounding this campaign has been positive, stating that SVTC has successfully engaged its audience in serious intellectual conversation about real issues.
